Is SuiteCRM any good?
SuiteCRM is a capable, free open-source CRM: sales, marketing, cases, quotes, workflow and reports with no per-user fees and full control of your data. Its weak points are running it yourself, a SuiteCRM 8 that still mixes new and classic screens, no official mobile app, and an interface that needs work to look like yours.
The short verdict
| Verdict | |
|---|---|
| Best for | Teams that want a full CRM without per-user fees, must keep data on their own servers, or need to change the product itself |
| Not for | Teams with nobody to run a server and no budget for managed hosting, or who need a polished mobile app out of the box |
| Software cost | Free (AGPLv3), any number of users |
| Running cost | Your own server, or managed hosting from £50 a month on suitecrm.com |
| Version to choose today | SuiteCRM 8.10 for a new install; 7.15 if you depend on 7.x add-ons (supported into 2028) |
We are not neutral: we make Brandtint, which sells SuiteCRM themes, so we want SuiteCRM to do well. We have tried to make this page as useful to someone who decides against it as to someone who picks it.
How we tested
Every Brandtint theme package is installed into real SuiteCRM before we ship a change: SuiteCRM 7.13.4, 7.14.6 and 7.15.2, and SuiteCRM 8.10.2, each in its own container, through SuiteCRM's own Module Loader code, and by hand in a browser on 7.15.2 and 8.10.2. In October 2026 we also ran SuiteCRM's official 7.14 to 7.15.2 upgrade package over an installed theme to see what an upgrade keeps. The observations below marked "in our testing" come from that work; everything else is from SuiteCRM's own documentation and pricing pages, read on 21 October 2026 and listed under Sources at the end.
What SuiteCRM does well
- No licence fee and no per-user pricing. The software is free under the AGPLv3, and even SalesAgility's managed hosting is priced per instance, not per seat. Adding the tenth or the hundredth user costs nothing extra.
- A broad set of modules out of the box. Accounts, contacts, leads and opportunities; marketing campaigns, surveys and events; cases with a customer portal and a knowledge base; quotes, invoices, contracts and products with PDF templates; projects; workflows that run on save or on a schedule; and reports that can be charted and emailed on a timetable.
- You own the data and the code. The database is yours, on your server or your host's, and the source is public on GitHub. Studio and Module Builder add fields and whole modules without code; anything else can be changed by a developer.
- Record-level security. Security Groups decide who can see which records and Roles decide what each user may do, which covers most team and franchise set-ups without custom code.
- An API for integrations. The V8 API speaks JSON:API over HTTPS with OAuth 2, so other systems can read and write records.
- Long support for 7.x. SuiteCRM 7.15 is an extended-support release: active support until December 2027 and security fixes into early 2028.
- Upgrades that respect your customisations. In our testing, the official 7.14 to 7.15.2 upgrade left a custom sub-theme, its registration and the site default exactly as they were, because SuiteCRM keeps site changes under
custom/.
Where SuiteCRM falls short
- You run it. Self-hosting means PHP and database upgrades, backups, security patches and SuiteCRM updates are your job or your host's. Managed hosting removes that, at a monthly cost.
- SuiteCRM 8 is two interfaces. Accounts, contacts, leads, opportunities and cases use the new Angular screens, and 8.10 moved documents and notes across too. Many other modules' record views, the Emails and Calendar screens, and all of Admin and Studio still open in the classic interface, so a SuiteCRM 8 install mixes two looks.
- Moving from 7 to 8 is a migration, not an upgrade. SuiteCRM's own documentation says so: SuiteCRM 8 is installed as a new environment and the 7.x data and customisations are moved across.
- No official mobile app. SuiteCRM's pages promise a responsive layout that works in a phone's browser; native apps come from third parties.
- Some everyday integrations are paid add-ons. The official Outlook plugin, for example, is $60 per user a year on the SuiteCRM Store.
- It looks like SuiteCRM. Neither version has a colour setting in Admin: SuiteCRM 7 offers four stock SuiteP styles (Dawn, Day, Dusk and Night), and SuiteCRM 8's Angular theme has no runtime CSS variables at all in any release up to 8.10.2, so making it look like your company means compiling and installing a theme.
- Version and PHP matching matters. In our testing SuiteCRM 7.14.6 stopped with a fatal error on PHP 8.3 until we patched one file, while 7.15 runs on PHP 8.3 and 8.4. Check the compatibility matrix before you upgrade PHP under an older release.
What SuiteCRM really costs
The software is free; the cost is running it and any help you buy. SuiteCRM's own prices, in pounds as suitecrm.com states them (October 2026):
| Item | Price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Software | Free | AGPLv3, any number of users |
| Fully managed hosting | From £50 a month | Per instance, no per-user fees |
| Quick Start implementation | From £2,520 | One-off |
| Standard Support | £1,200 | 10 support hours |
| SuiteASSURED | From £3,350 a year | Includes 10 care hours |
| Official Outlook plugin | $60 per user a year | SuiteCRM Store, 30-day trial |
A self-hosted install on a server you already run can cost nothing but time. Add-ons from the SuiteCRM Store, including a theme, are mostly one-off purchases. For a side-by-side with a per-user CRM, see SuiteCRM vs Vtiger and SuiteCRM vs SugarCRM.
Versions, support and requirements
| SuiteCRM 7.15 | SuiteCRM 8.10 | |
|---|---|---|
| Latest release | 7.15.2, 31 July 2026 | 8.10.2, 31 July 2026 |
| Support | Extended-support release: active support to December 2027, security fixes into early 2028 | Supported until a newer 8.x release replaces it; 8.11 is expected in Q4 2026 |
| PHP | 8.1 to 8.4 | 8.2 to 8.4 |
| Database | MySQL 8.0 or 8.4, MariaDB 10.6 to 11.8, SQL Server 2019 or later | MySQL 8.0 or 8.4, MariaDB 10.6 to 11.8 |
| Web server | Apache 2.4 or IIS 10 | Apache 2.4 |
For 7.15 the documentation gives March 2028 as the end of security fixes and the roadmap page gives January 2028; plan for the earlier date. The differences between the two versions' themes are in SuiteCRM 7 vs 8 theming.
What users say on review sites
On 21 October 2026 SuiteCRM scored 4.2 out of 5 on G2 (102 reviews) and 4.2 out of 5 on Capterra (48 reviews). Capterra's reviewers rated value for money highest (4.8) and customer support lowest (3.5). That matches the trade-off above: the software is good value, and help beyond the free community forum is something you arrange and pay for.
Should you use SuiteCRM?
Yes, if you want a complete CRM without per-user fees, need to keep data on your own infrastructure, plan to change the product, or deliver CRM to clients under your own brand. Start on 8.10 unless an add-on you rely on only supports 7.x.
Look elsewhere, if nobody can look after a server and managed hosting is not in the budget, if your team works mostly from phones, or if you want a vendor to own the whole product. A hosted, per-user CRM is the simpler choice there.

Questions
Is SuiteCRM really free?
The software is: SuiteCRM is open source under the AGPLv3, with no licence fee and no per-user charge. What costs money is running it, either your own server and time or managed hosting from £50 a month, plus any paid support or add-ons you choose.
Is SuiteCRM still supported?
Yes. SuiteCRM 8.10.2 and 7.15.2 were both released on 31 July 2026. 7.15 is an extended-support release with active support to December 2027 and security fixes into early 2028, and SuiteCRM 8.11 is expected in the fourth quarter of 2026.
Does SuiteCRM have a mobile app?
Not an official one. SuiteCRM uses a responsive layout that works in a phone browser, and native mobile apps for it are made by third parties.
Should I install SuiteCRM 7 or SuiteCRM 8?
SuiteCRM 8 for a new install, unless an add-on you depend on supports only 7.x. Moving from 7 to 8 later is a migration to a new environment, not an in-place upgrade, so it is easier to start on 8.
